Give a Buck: How Vermonters and ‘Flatlanders’ Can Help Relief Efforts in Haiti
In these economic times, we know all too well that money is tight. But imagine if you could make a huge difference just by giving $1. Though Haiti may seem like a world away from the Northeast Kingdom, your single dollar can help Earthquake relief efforts. Recent news reports report that as many as 50,000 people may be dead as a result of the 7.0 magnitude Earthquake that struck Haiti earlier this week, with many, many still missing, including Americans.
Today, efforts to help Haiti relief exploded throughout the blogosphere and on Twitter, with some bloggers and social media gurus urging people to give a dollar to a charity of their choice–figuring that millions could be raised in a single day if the millions of bloggers and 6 million Twitter users gave just a buck.
Vermonters are giving when it comes to relief efforts. I know, as I still vividly recall working on a Hurricane Katrina relief fundraiser in Chittenden County in 2005. Even VT’s Governor, Jim Douglas, decided to pitch in $100 toward relief efforts in Haiti.
It’s easy to blow a buck and have nothing to show for it. I’m thinking about that box of Junior Mints I bought today. But, what if your dollar could make a very serious difference right now?
